the careful curation and placement of words on a page
Susan Woodhead is a poet, lyricist, and song-writer, born on the traditional lands of the Dungibara people in Queensland.
Encouraged by her Dad, mentored by a dedicated High School teacher with a passion for English, and with a 16th Century Oxford Scholar and author in the family tree, Susan’s early poetry and prose first appeared in Queensland’s Sunday Mail newspaper.
Later works were critiqued by accomplished and respected Australian poet Thomas Shapcott. A number of Susan’s poems were published in the iconic Australian literary journal Meanjin.
Placings at various regional Eisteddfods followed, together with a coveted win at the Sydney Eisteddfod in 2007.
Now based in the magical Guringai area of Sydney, Susan is inspired by the natural beauty of the Guringai and Bundjalung regions that often feature in her writing, which has been a close companion throughout the years.
A fascination with the careful curation and placement of the written word on a page, combined with musical interests, has led Susan to extend her poetic talents to song-writing and song lyrics.
